The annual Eco Open Houses event comes to Shoreham-by-Sea this April. Since 2014 it has been run by some of the team from Transition Town Worthing. This year it has been extended to Shoreham with support from Transition Town Shoreham, and also Steyning with help from Greening Steyning. It runs from Tuesday 7 April to Sunday 19 April.
Eco Open Houses provides inspiration and practical advice on how to create healthier, warmer, more eco-friendly homes and workplaces. A local trail of twenty houses in Worthing, Shoreham, Steyning and Upper Beeding will be open on one of the two weekends during the period. Each will showcase inspirational ideas, best practice and ways for homeowners, tenants and businesses to save money on energy and water bills, whilst reducing your impact on the environment.
This year, eight of the Eco Open Houses are in Shoreham-by-Sea and they will be open on Saturday 18 April and/or Sunday 19 April. There are also many fringe events across the whole event in various sites.
All the activities and visits during the Eco Open Houses period are free, but you have to register in advance for each of the fringe events.

Retrofit Talk in Shoreham
One event that is particularly special for the Shoreham Society is a presentation and Q&A with Sarah Kemp from Retrofit Sussex and Emma Fletcher, the Low Carbon Homes Director at Octopus Energy. Sarah contributed to a very informative and helpful talk to the Shoreham Society in November 2022.
Their focus will be on how to plan to replace a gas or oil boiler with a heat pump and also the potential for community heat networks.

Their talk will be on Friday 17 April at 7pm in the Shoreham Centre. As this is the usual Friday of the month when there would be a Shoreham Society talk, we will not be holding one on that evening. Instead, we encourage everyone, and especially Shoreham Society members, to come to this special Eco Open Houses event in Shoreham. But register early to reserve your spot.
